Our lifts are also CE marked and comply with the Machinery Directive 2006/EC, as well as with all relevant European Safety and Accessibility Standards.
Speaking in general terms, wheelchair lifts should have a platform size of at least 1000 x 1200 mm (w x d) according to the UN. That works for for wheelchair lifts in residential buildings. But according to European Standards, the platform needs to be at least 900 x 1400 mm (w x d) for public and commercial spaces. We invite your to explore our wide range of lift models in wheelchair-friendly sizes.
Simply put, a wheelchair lift is a vertical platform or cabin lift with the capacity to transport a person in a wheelchair. Such lifts are designed to be user-friendly and to meet accessibility standards. Wheelchair elevators exist in a wide range of brands, sizes and designs. Thanks to their universal usability, vertical elevators add greater value to a building than stairlifts or inclined platform lifts. That makes perfect sense when you think about it. While stairlifts are designed exclusively for people with mobility impairement, wheelchair lifts are designed for everyone.
According to WHO (World Health Organization), more than one billion people, or 15% of the world population, live with some form of disability. In addition, accessibility is included as one of the fundamental rights in the Bill of Human Rights to guarantee everyone free mobility and equal access to activities and services.
Buying a wheelchair elevator for a public or commercial building opens your establishment to a wider client base. That is not only good for business but also socially sustainable. The same win-win situation is also true for homeowners, given that purchasing a residential lift both increases property value and makes all the floors of your home accessible.
What type of wheelchair elevator is best for you, ultimately depends on your needs and the accessibility requirements of your building. There are many good wheelchair-friendly lift alternatives available in the market. However, different lift types have different advantages. Below we explain some of the most important differences between them to help guide your choice.
Lift size is key when you choose a wheelchair-friendly lift. We recommend a platform size of at least 900 x 1400 mm for a public or commercial building and for a private home, a platform size of at least 1000 x 1200 mm. According to European safety standards, the platform controls are with hold-to-run (constant pressure), while the landing controls operate with automatic drive (one-touch).
To accommodate for a wheelchair, we recommend a cabin size of at least 1100 x 1400 mm for public and commercial establishments. For your home, on the other hand, a cabin size of 1100 x 1200 mm or 900 x 1400 mm may be enough. A cabin lift offers you the comfort of telescopic sliding doors and comes with automatic drive (one-touch), both inside the cabin and on the landings, as standard.
No space inside the building? Then our outdoor lifts are a space-saving alternative. Our outdoor platform lifts exist in two wheelchair-friendly sizes and come fully equipped to handle almost any weather conditions. According to European safety standards, the platform controls operate with hold-to-run (constant pressure), while the landing controls operate with automatic drive (one-touch).
Some mobility scooters are too big to fit comfortably in our standard platform lifts, but we have a solution for that too. The Kalea A4 Mille can take up to 1000 kg and comes in platform sizes from 1105 x 2180 mm to 1405 x 2480 mm. Platform controls are with hold-to-run (constant pressure) and landing controls with automatic drive (one-touch).
If you are looking for a comfortable and luxurious accessibility solution that can accommodate a mobility scooter, the Kalea C1 Futura is a great alternative. Designed to be fitted in a masonry shaft our largest lift cabin is 1100 x1700 mm. This lift model comes with sliding doors and automatic drive (one-touch) for both cabin and landing controls.

The call button is placed a few metres away from the lift so that you can easily access the lift without backing away when the doors open. The button is typically activated with the elbow, hence the name elbow button.
Level indicators can be placed on the platform and/or on the lift doors. They tell you when the lift has arrived to your floor but also in what direction the lift is travelling (up/down) when the lift is in use.
The lap-held remote control is wireless and workswith infrared (IR) technology. Thanks to its large buttons and programmable functions, this remote controls makes it easy and comfortable travel with the lift.
If you are looking for a fast and hassle-free accessibility solution, a lift by Kalea is a great choice. While conventional elevators may take many months to manufacture and several weeks to build, a vertical platform lift by Kalea can be delivered in just 3-4 weeks and installed in as little as 2-3 days.
Because our lifts require neither lift pit, top machinery, nor a separate machine room, they have a much smaller footprint than conventional elevators and need much less building work.
Thanks to our all-inclusive, ready-made concept, lifts by Kalea are manufactured, delivered and installed a lot faster than conventional elevators. Most lift models even include the lift shaft!
All our lifts come with full safety equipment. For example, all lift models include a battery-driven emergency lowering system operated from the inside. This is to ensure that you will always be able to evacuate the lift, without outside help, in case of a power outage.
In addition, we also offer locking systems, such as tag locks to limit the access to certain floors, or child locks. Watch the video about our smart child lock, or contact us for more information!
