Kalea A4 Mille at Saint Bridget's Chapel
The Kalea A4 Mille at the Saint Bridget's Chapel in Gothenburg, Sweden, is a truly unique installation. Given that the Kalea A4 Mille is normally not intended for outdoor installation, the only way to succeed with the project was through extensive in situ customisation. Nevertheless, the result is absolutely stunning!
Bespoke Lift Shaft
This bespoke installation was possible thanks to a close collaboration between Kalea Lifts in Gothenburg, the customer and the builder. The beautiful granite lift shaft not only makes the Kalea A4 Mille blend in with the rocks at the chapel, but also offers the necessary insulation for the lift to work during the cold winter months.
Customised Access Ramp
Leading up to the lift, a custom-built ramp in stone ensures easy access to the chapel for wheelchair users. In addition, the design of the access ramp is in keeping with the stone shaft and lift and completes the installation.
Large Platform Dimensions
Before the lift , the only way to reach Saint Bridget’s chapel was by small foot paths and stairs. But thanks to the Kalea A4 Mille, easy access is no problem. The lift is big enough to take groups of 8-10 people and people in wheelchairs, even electrical wheelchairs. Another advantage is that the lift is large enough to transport coffins at funerals.
A Heavenly View
Travelling with this lift is a unique experience. Looking up the lift shaft, you can see the sky through the unique glass ceiling, a beautiful feature that suits the location.
Top Floor
On the top floor, you get a good view of one of the customised glazed canopies, protecting the lift doors against rain and snow. Also notice the drainage grid in front of the door, that captures the rain water and keeps it away from the lift.
Kalea A4 Mille Accessories
To complete the installation, some optional features have been added, such as the elbow button and ASSA lock solution. The elbow button calls on the lift and opens the lift doors. It is placed on the side of the lift to make it easier for wheelchair users to access and use the lift, given that it eliminates the need to back away when the doors swing open. The ASSA lock keeps the lift safe when it is not in use.
